"IHPVA World Championships 2008
Bentwaters Parks, Suffolk, England – 16-17 August 2008

INTRODUCTION
The British Human Power Club have the pleasure of hosting the 2008 International Human Powered Vehicle World Championships.

The venue, Bentwaters Parks, is an ex-airfield in Suffolk near to the village of Woodbridge and the North Sea Cycle Route, approximately 60km of easy riding from the Port of Harwich. The site covers about 1,000 acres and with a variety of roads as well as a 1.3-mile long main runway, which is ideal for HPV racing!

The IHPVA World Championships 2008 feature 200m sprints, criterium and distance races, and drag sprints, as well as a program of touring rides. The countryside around Bentwaters Parks is fantastic for touring and family cycling, with many attractions.

EVENTS
200m Sprint – We hope to run this event in the early morning and evening (when air tends to be still) for the fast machines, as well as during the day.
The BHPC now recognise ‘All Comers’ performance records (see below), there is a possibility for a new speed record.
. Criterium – Short, intense, with corners and a climb.
. Three-hour Road Race – Long and fast.
. One hour Time Trial – ‘Race of truth’ against the clock.
. 1k Standing Start – The event for sprinters!

Faired, Unfaired, Part-faired, Unfaired Multitrack and Armpowered

CIRCUIT AND PARK
Bentwaters Parks was a RAF airfield, used by the US Air Force 81st Fighter Wing during the cold war.
There are historical features, such as hardened aircraft hangers and secure bunkers used for weapons stores. There is also a 40-acre enterprise park.

The main runways – there are two, each 1.3 miles long – are surrounded by access roads and aircraft taxi-ways.
Many of these lead off into lovely green areas with grass, trees, and wildlife, which are environmentally protected.
The main runway is a great shimmering strip of black tarmac, in very good condition, just calling for speeding HPVs.

Bentwaters is also renowned for being the “UK Roswell” where several American military personnel reported a UFO sighting on the base. Hopefully there will be enough fast low-flying objects that the little green men will pay us another visit!

ACCOMMODATION
Camping
The BHPC have a campsite right next to Bentwaters Parks, available for Friday, through Wednesday nights. The site has water, toilets, and hot showers.
The cost for a tent pitch for two people is £10/night. Additional people are per night: adults, £4;
children to age 5, free.
Dogs and owls are free, too (but no free-running dogs or low-level flying owls!).

If you are tent camping, we encourage you to stay at the BHPC site. It is convenient for access to events and is a place where we can easily gather together and socialise. If you have a camper vehicle or caravan, we suggest Staverton Camping Park (tel 01394 460783; web review

Registration is available via the http://www.wc2008.org.uk website, and handled securely via paypal payment, please register early to secure your place.

TOURING/DINNER
Touring
On the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (August 18/19/20th) following the weekend of racing, there will be guided rides from the WC2008 site into the countryside of Suffolk.

Day rides will be available at two distances: an easy local ride of about 25 miles (40 kilometres), and a ride venturing further a field, between 50 and 60 miles (80-100 kilometres).

In addition, there will be a short ride on the afternoon of Friday August 15th – to stretch your legs before the racing starts.

We will visit castles, a Tudor manor house that is now a brewery, cafés and teashops, pubs for lunch . . . and as far as possible we will avoid busy roads. There are no big hills! The countryside is gently rolling, with lots of quiet lanes, pleasant scenery and plenty of things to see.

For visitors who have GPS and wish to ride the routes independently, .gpx files will be available on the web site.

Dinner
On Saturday night, if the weather is good, there will be a bring-your-own barbecue at the BHPC campsite. We will provide a big BBQ and coals for cooking (open fires on the ground not allowed), you bring food and drink. If the weather is rotten, then let’s all go to nearby pubs and restaurants –
there are plenty – and have a nice evening that way.

Exploring
If you go riding on your own, places to visit include:
Woodbridge Tide Mill, Framlingham Castle, Orford Castle, Leiston Abbey, Saxtead Green Post Mill (windmill), Dunwich (lost city and nature reserve), Orford Ness (nature reserve with old military research buildings), Sutton Hoo (Anglo Saxon Burial Site), Rendlesham Forest, Long Shop Museum
(Garrett steam engine museum).

Trains run to Wickham Market Station from London Liverpool Street.

Riders arriving at Harwich on the cross-Channel ferry and wishing to cycle to the WC2008 site have a ride of 40miles/62km to the WC2008 site, going via the towns of Manningtree and Ipswich to cross the Stour and Orwell estuaries. If you have GPS, you may wish to use the .gpx route file which
will be posted on http://www.wc2008.org.uk for download shortly. This will guide you along the best cycling route from Harwich via Ipswich to the WC2008 site.

We are also able to provide a special sailing of the Harwich cross-harbour ferry
(http://www.harwichharbourferry.com/) to correspond with the Friday August 15th 20:00 arrival of the cross-Channel ferry from Hoek to Harwich.
This little ferry takes you across the harbour to Felixstowe, and from there the ride to Bentwaters is much shorter (22miles/36km), and mostly on quiet roads.
Places are very limited for this, and priority will be given to families, for this crossing.

Voici d'autres informations toujours en anglais qui viennent compléter le premier communiqué de presse.

Sont annoncés en démonstration un aéroglisseur, le "Steam Boat Willy" et un avion à propulsion humaine, l'Airglow. Le Zeppy est cité pour sa récente tentative de la traversée de la Manche, qui témoigne selon eux d'un certain regain d'intérêt pour le vol à propulsion humaine.

A truly Human Powered World Championships

Introduction
The focus on any International Human Powered Association World Championships vehicles is the land based machines, faired and unfaired recumbent bikes and trikes, the fastest and most efficient way of moving on solid ground under purely human power.
That’s not all there is to it though and over the weekend of 16-17 August at Bentwaters Parks in Suffolk the BHPC have the pleasure in hosting vehicles suitable for two of the other elements, air and water!

Elements
Human Powered Hovercraft “Steam Boat Willy” (http://www.steamboatwilly.org/) will be in attendance to show what’s possible when things start to get wet, and there are two other Human Powered Aircraft including the British HPA Airglow to look forward to seeing.

It’s been a while since anyone has pushed the boundaries of human powered flight but this year sees a resurgence in interest in these fascinating paperweight flying machines.
At present the French “Zeppy” is attempting the first ever human powered airship crossing of the channel from Lydd in Kent across to Calais [Wissant] in France.
A team from the University of Delft is building a Human Powered Aircraft to take the Kremer prize, which must be completed on British soil.

Racing & Records
The weekend is based around racing, and there will be plenty of racing for those who want it. The main runway at Bentwaters Parks has now been professionally surveyed and the BHPC are proud to announce that at an overall rise of 2m in 1220m the overall rise is 1 in 150 length the course works out to be very suitable for world record attempts for the 200m flying start sprints.

For the first time there will be a British All Comers record, who will become the fastest person on British soil? There is also opportunity to break the WRRA records for unfaired machines.

Running Order is now
Sat am - Flying 200m & 1k drags - On main runway, about 1.3 mile long
Sat pm - Three Hour Race - Course about 4 miles.
Sun am - One Hour Time-Trial - Fast flat course about 2 miles.

Prizes
HPV World Championship 2008 competitors will be racing for genuinely collectable prizes: distinctive hand-made pottery!
Produced at MADE IN CLEY, a craft centre in Cley-next-the Sea, Norfolk, the range of pottery items are a departure from the usual plastic-and-tin trophy cups, and as well as being attractive, are useful for holding food, beer, flowers, origami, or whatever.

The prizes are thanks to joint sponsorship by Mike Burrows and the British Human Power Club. The pottery is custom-designed and hand-made for us for this World Championships, you wouldn’t be able to buy anything like it elsewhere!
MADE IN CLEY are a small (eight, last look) group of craftspeople, and as well as pottery, they produce sculpture, jewellery, prints and photographs, and furniture. Their web site (http://www.madeincley.co.uk/Index.htm) is lovely, and well worth a visit.

Comme annoncé, j'ai tout viré, même les miens (pas de jaloux). Pour discuter des championnats, comme tu l'as toi même fait remarqué, il faut aller dans la section course. Ceci à fin de faciliter la lecture du forum.
